HISTORY OF MODERN WOUND CARE
Let's start by traveling back in time to 2007 and meet a southern California surgeon by the name of Dr Bardia Anvar. Dr. Anvar has recently stumbled upon an idea that would change wound care as we know it.
He discovered that patients in nursing facilities benefited from the same important surgical care that patients received in the hospital. Over time, he developed a whole new transformative model to efficiently practice in the nursing home environment. He observed that in the time it takes to start a single surgical case in the hospital, physicians could see and help a dozen patients in a skilled nursing facility.
Now, let's flash forward to the present. Bedside wound care has bloomed into a massive industry, with Dr Anvar himself managing a practice that services more than 25 states with the help of over 100 providers.
For physicians all over the country, wound care has become an increasingly attractive option due to its flexible schedule, competitive salary, and opportunity for deeper professional fulfillment.
WHY WOUND CARE?
The biggest contributor to its popularity is perhaps that the skills required can be transferred from many specialties. Physicians and healthcare professionals from all backgrounds, such as general practitioners, surgeons, emergency room doctors, and family practitioners have all made the successful transition to wound care.
Additional wound care training and certification allows physicians to become industry experts in a short period of time, making it an excellent entry point for non-board-certified physicians and international medical graduates.
